My family and I go to Dr. Saad - he's located at the corner of Curry and Tecumseh in Windsor. I don't know if he's an oral sugeon but I believe he pulls teeth. Anyway, the staff there are great and it's a nice modern office where you can watch TV while they're working on your teeth. My daughter almost had to have a root canal because my former dentist missed diagnosing it but thanks to Dr. Saad and his assistant, they were able to save the tooth. They are punctual too which is a bonus. :P

As a dental assistant I have a very strong opinion about this. First of all, why isn't your dentist taking your childs teeth out? Is it their wisdom teeth or is it their primary/permanant teeth? Is it to make room for braces? IF it is for their wisdom teeth, yes by all means see an oral segeon. If it is to make room for braces, please change your dentist!!!
Going to a dentist should be a really fun and exciting experience for children. (I'm going by the assumption that your children are young and need to take their teeth out to make room for their permanant teeth and/or they are getting braces.)
At our office, we make sure that each child is comfortable with us and we do ALL of our extractions in office with only local anesthetic. We do not use gas, we dont put children to sleep because we feel that it is absolutely unnecessary. If a child is so scared and uncooperative with us, we do not force them to do it. We will try our best to reasure them and they even get to watch TV during the entire procedure so they are usually oblivisous to what is actually going on. IF we are not sucessful, we will refer a child to a pedodotist (a pediatric dentist) and they will use gas or put they child to sleep if required. We work on a lot of children and with my 3 1/2 years experience with this dr, we have refered to a pediatric dentist 3 times!!!!

The difference btw a pedodontist and an oral surgeon when it comes to a child is this....an oral sergeon is just that ...a surgeon. He is not sympathetic, or patient. A pedodontist is wonderful with children and has all the right tricks.

However, with all that said, I fell that you family dentist should be the one taking the teeth out..after all your child already knows and trusts him/her...at least they should. But if it is not possible, I suggest going to a pediatric dentist. The wait time to see one is sometimes long, the price is, well, that of a specialist...but its worth it.
I dont know your childs particular case, but if he/she still requires to see an oral sugeon, there are only a few in Windsor and most of them are up there in age...let me know if you really need to be refered to one, I will give you a few names, just think about everything fist and maybe talk to your dentist again.

Oh, I fogot to tell you that when I was a teenager, the dentist I had gone to my whole life said that I needed my wisdom teeth pulled out. Well, the appointment was set, but a few days before, I got cold feet and cancelled the appointment. Long story short, I still have my wisdom teeth. You might want to get a second opinion. :P

I broke a tooth yesterday while eating tortillas at a Mexican restaurant in Detoirt. :(
Dr. Saad's office got me in this morning and took care of me right away. They are a great team of professionals and I highly recommend them. :D
